ULID generator
Generate ULIDs online: 26-character IDs that sort by creation time, written in Crockford Base32 so they are short, URL-safe and easy to read. Make up to 1,000 at once and copy them. Made in your browser, nothing uploaded.
How to generate a ULID
- 1Open "Generate IDs" with "ULID" selected
- 2Set how many you want, up to 1,000
- 3Copy the list, or click "Generate new"
- ULIDs in creation order, one per line.
What you get
- Sorted by time. The first 10 characters hold the time in milliseconds, so ULIDs sort in the order they were made.
- Same millisecond, still in order.ULIDs made in the same millisecond count up instead of being random.
- Nothing is uploaded. They are made on your device with the browser's secure random generator.
What you can do
- Make 1 to 1,000 ULIDs at once. The default is 5.
- Get 26 characters from 0 to 9 and A to Z, without I, L, O and U, so they are hard to misread.
- Switch the ID type to UUID v7 or UUID v4 if your system needs a UUID.
- Paste a ULID into "Decode an ID" to read the time it was made.
Good to know
- A ULID is 10 characters of time plus 16 of randomness. The time is visible, so use a random ID if that must stay private.
- A ULID has no hyphens and is already uppercase, so "No hyphens" and "Uppercase" change nothing for it.
- A ULID is not a UUID, but it holds the same 128 bits and can be stored as one.
Questions
What is a ULID?
A Universally Unique Lexicographically Sortable Identifier: 48 bits of time and 80 random bits, written as 26 characters.
How is a ULID different from a UUID?
It is shorter when written out (26 against 36 characters) and always sorts by time. A UUID v7 does the same in the UUID format.
Can I read the time in a ULID?
Yes. Paste it into "Decode an ID" to see the date and time in UTC.
Is anything uploaded?
No. The ULIDs are made in your browser.
