CRC32 hash generator
Calculate the CRC32 checksum of text online, free. You get the 8-character hex value, the one used in ZIP, PNG and Ethernet to spot damaged data. The other hashes are listed with it, and nothing is uploaded.
How to calculate a CRC32 hash online
- 1Type or paste your text, or drop a text file
- 2Read the hash in the list as you type
- 3Press the copy button, or choose Uppercase
- An 8-character CRC32 value, in hex.
What happens to your data
- Nothing is uploaded. The hash is calculated in your browser. Your text and files stay on your device.
- Short 8-character result.CRC32 is a compact checksum, easy to compare by eye.
- Other hashes included.MD5, SHA-1 and the SHA-2 family appear in the same list.
What you can do
- Get the CRC32 of any text, updated as you type.
- Show the value in lowercase or, with "Uppercase", in capitals.
- Read MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 of the same text without a second step.
- Drop a text file to hash its content. For any other file, use the "File checksum" tab, which also gives the CRC32.
Good to know
- CRC32 detects accidental errors such as a bad download or a flipped bit. It is not a security hash: anyone can craft data with a chosen CRC32.
- The text is hashed as UTF-8. The same words typed with a different encoding or line ending give another value.
- The value is 8 hex characters, so two different texts can share one. Use SHA-256 when that matters.
Questions
What is a CRC32 checksum?
It is a 32-bit number calculated from data. If a single bit changes, the number almost always changes too, which is how ZIP and PNG notice damage.
Is CRC32 safe for passwords or signatures?
No. It only guards against accidents. For integrity against tampering, use SHA-256 or SHA-512.
Can I check the CRC32 of a file?
Yes. Open the "File checksum" tab, drop the file, and the CRC32 appears with the other hashes.
Why is my value different from another tool?
Check the encoding and line endings of the text. This tool hashes the text as UTF-8, exactly as typed.
