SHA-384 hash generator

Calculate the SHA-384 hash of text online, free. You get the 96-character hex digest, the one used in Subresource Integrity attributes and some TLS suites. The other hashes are listed with it. Nothing is uploaded.

How to calculate a SHA-384 hash online

  1. 1Type or paste your text, or drop a text file
  2. 2Read the hash in the list as you type
  3. 3Press the copy button, or choose Uppercase
  4. A 96-character SHA-384 digest, in hex.

What happens to your data

  • Nothing is uploaded. The hash is calculated in your browser. Your text and files stay on your device.
  • 96 hex characters.Longer than SHA-256 and shorter than SHA-512.
  • Other hashes included.SHA-256, SHA-512 and the rest sit in the same list.

What you can do

  • Get the SHA-384 of any text, updated as you type.
  • Show the digest in capitals with "Uppercase".
  • Add an HMAC key to see HMAC-SHA-384 next to it.
  • Hash a downloaded file on the "File checksum" tab, which also reads Subresource Integrity strings such as sha384-… when you paste one to compare.

Good to know

  • SHA-384 is SHA-512 with different starting values and a shortened result, so it is about as fast as SHA-512, not SHA-256.
  • It is a SHA-2 hash and is considered secure for integrity and signatures.
  • For an SRI integrity attribute you need the Base64 form, so the hex value here has to be converted first.

Questions

What is SHA-384 used for?

Subresource Integrity (integrity="sha384-…") on script and link tags is the best known use. It also appears in some TLS and signing setups.

How long is a SHA-384 hash?

96 hex characters, which is 48 bytes or 384 bits.

SHA-384 or SHA-256?

Both are secure. Pick the one the other side asks for. SHA-256 is more common.

Can I check a file's SHA-384?

Yes. Use the "File checksum" tab, drop the file and paste the expected value.
