File checksum calculator
Calculate the MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512 and CRC32 checksums of any file in one go. Drop the file in and all six appear, with a progress line for big files. The file never leaves your device.
How to calculate a file checksum
- 1Drop the file in, or click to choose it
- 2Wait for the six checksums to appear
- 3Copy one, or copy the checksum file
- Six checksums of your file, ready to copy.
What you get
- Six checksums at once.MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512 and CRC32 from one drop.
- Any file type.Nothing is limited to images or documents, an ISO or a ZIP works too.
- Nothing is uploaded. The file is read and hashed by your browser, on your own device.
What you can do
- Hash any file and see all six checksums listed with the file name and size.
- Watch the progress while MD5 and CRC32 stream through a big file.
- Copy the result as sha256sum-style text ("hash filename"), ready for a checksums file.
- Paste a published hash into "Compare with a checksum" to check the file straight away.
Good to know
- The whole file is read into memory for the SHA hashes. Very large files are limited by your device and may show a "Try a device with more memory" error.
- MD5 and SHA-1 are fine for catching a damaged download but are not secure against tampering. Use SHA-256 or SHA-512 for that.
- One file at a time: dropping a new file replaces the previous result.
Questions
How do I get the SHA-256 of a file?
Drop the file in. The SHA-256 is one of the six checksums shown, next to MD5, SHA-1, SHA-384, SHA-512 and CRC32.
Which checksum should I use?
Use the one the download page gives you. If you can choose, SHA-256 is a good default. MD5 and CRC32 only catch accidents.
Does my file get uploaded?
No. It is read and hashed in your browser. Nothing leaves your device.
