Number files sequentially
Number many files in a row: 001, 002, 003 and so on. You choose the start value and the number of digits, and whether the number goes before the name, after it or replaces it. Every new name is shown first, and nothing is uploaded.
How to number files sequentially
- 1Drop your files in, or choose a folder
- 2Set "Numbering", "Start" and "Digits"
- 3Check the table, then rename or download
- Files named 001_name.jpg, 002_name.jpg and so on.
What happens to your files
- Zero-padded numbers.Digits from 1 to 8, so 7 becomes 007 and files sort the right way.
- Three positions.Number before the name, after it, or replace the name with the number.
- Nothing is uploaded.Renaming happens in your browser, on your own device.
What you can do
- Start at any number: "Start" is 1 and "Digits" is 3 by default, giving 001, 002, 003.
- "Number before name" gives 001_photo.jpg, "Number after name" gives photo_001.jpg, and "Replace name with number" gives 001.jpg.
- Fix clashes: numbering makes every name unique, so it also solves red rows from other rules.
- Rename in place in Chrome or Edge on a computer, with Undo, or download renamed copies as a ZIP.
Good to know
- Numbers follow the order of the files in the list. When you choose a folder, that is sorted by path with natural number order, so file2 comes before file10.
- A number with more digits than you chose is not cut: with 2 digits, file 100 becomes 100.
- The number is joined to the name with an underscore. If you want a different separator, use the prefix or suffix fields as well.
Questions
How do I number files 001, 002, 003?
Choose "Number before name" or "Replace name with number", leave "Start" at 1 and "Digits" at 3.
Can I start at a number other than 1?
Yes. Type your number in "Start". The first file gets it, the next gets one more, and so on.
Can I replace the old names with numbers only?
Yes. Choose "Replace name with number". Each file keeps its extension and gets just the number.
