Bulk file renamer
Rename many files at once with a stack of rules: find and replace, prefix and suffix, case, numbering and a new extension. A table shows the new name of every file as you change a rule, and nothing is uploaded: the renaming happens in your browser.
How to rename many files at once
- 1Drop your files in, or choose a folder
- 2Set the rules you need and watch the table
- 3Rename in place, or download the ZIP
- Your files with the new names, originals untouched in ZIP mode.
What happens to your files
- Live preview. The "Now" and "Becomes" columns update on every keystroke.
- Clashes are caught. Two files that would get the same name turn red, and saving waits until it is fixed.
- Nothing is uploaded.Files are renamed by your browser, on your own device.
What you can do
- Combine rules in one pass: find and replace (plain or regex), spaces to dashes, transliteration, special characters, case, numbering, prefix, suffix and a new extension.
- Number files with a start value and 1 to 8 digits, before the name, after it, or instead of it.
- In Chrome and Edge on a computer, rename the files where they are in a folder you choose (subfolders optional), then undo or save the list as CSV.
- In other browsers, download the renamed copies as one ZIP, or a rename helper script for Mac, Linux or Windows.
Good to know
- The rules run in a fixed order: find and replace, transliterate, special characters, spaces, case, numbering, prefix and suffix, then the extension.
- The table shows the first 300 files. All of them are renamed, not only the ones you see.
- A phone cannot rename files in place, so it gets the ZIP of renamed copies.
Questions
Can I rename hundreds of files at once?
Yes. Drop them in or choose a folder. The preview table shows the first 300, but every file is renamed.
Is there an undo?
In Chrome and Edge, after renaming in place, an "Undo" button restores the old names. The rename helper script also writes an undo script before it renames anything.
Does it work on a Mac, Windows and Linux?
Yes, it runs in the browser. Renaming in place needs Chrome or Edge on a computer. Other browsers and phones give you a ZIP of renamed copies.
