Change filename case

Change the capitalization of many filenames at once: lowercase, UPPERCASE, Title Case, slug-case, snake_case or camelCase. This page starts on Title Case. You see every new name first, and nothing is uploaded.

How to change the case of filenames

What happens to your files

What you can do

  • Title Case lowercases the name, then capitalizes each word after a space, underscore or hyphen: "MY holiday_photo" becomes "My Holiday_Photo".
  • snake_case and camelCase also remove accents and every character that is not a letter or digit, so "Mein Foto (1)" becomes "mein_foto_1" or "meinFoto1".
  • slug-case gives lowercase words joined by hyphens, ready for a web address.
  • Rename in place in Chrome or Edge on a computer, or download renamed copies as a ZIP.

Good to know

  • Only the name changes, not the extension. A .JPG stays .JPG unless you also type a new extension.
  • snake_case, camelCase and slug-case drop letters outside a to z (after removing accents), so names in other scripts may end up empty. Use numbering to avoid clashes.
  • Names that differ only in case, such as Photo and photo, would become identical and are flagged as a clash.

Questions

How do I make filenames lowercase?

Pick "lowercase" in the "Case" menu. The extension is left alone.

What is the difference between snake_case and slug-case?

Both give lowercase words without accents. snake_case joins them with underscores, slug-case with hyphens.

Does it work on a whole folder?

Yes, in Chrome or Edge on a computer you can choose a folder and rename in place, with an Undo button. Elsewhere you get a ZIP of renamed copies.
