Coin flip
Coin flip online: heads or tails with one coin or up to ten at once. Every throw is counted, so you see how many heads and tails came up, their share and the longest run. Each coin is a fair 50/50 draw from your browser's cryptographic random source.
How to flip a coin
- 1Choose how many coins to throw, or keep one
- 2Press Flip the coin
- 3Read the result, or keep throwing and watch the count
- Heads or tails for each coin, and the count so far
What you get
- A fair coin.Heads and tails are exactly as likely, and an earlier throw never changes the next one
- Up to ten coins.Throw several at once, for a game or to see how chance spreads out
- A running count.Heads, tails, their share in percent, the number of throws and the longest run
What you can do
- Flip one coin to settle a choice
- Throw two to ten coins at once
- Follow the count of heads and tails over many throws
- See the last twelve throws
- Start the count again at any time
Good to know
- The coin turns for a moment before it lands. If your device is set to reduce motion, the result shows at once
- The coin makes no sound, so you can use it in a quiet room
- Ten heads in a row can happen: ten throws are all heads once in 1,024 tries on average
- The count is kept only while the page is open
Questions
Is this coin flip really 50/50?
Yes. Each coin comes from crypto.getRandomValues, the random source browsers use for encryption, and one bit of it decides heads or tails.
Can I flip more than one coin?
Yes. Choose up to ten coins and they are all thrown together. The count adds up every coin.
Why did I get the same side many times in a row?
Runs are normal with chance. Each throw is new and the coin has no memory, so five tails in a row do not make heads more likely.
What does the longest run mean?
It is the most times the same side came up in a row since you started or reset the count.
Is anything saved or sent?
No. The coin is thrown on your device and the count stays on the page until you close it.
