URL decode

Decode a URL-encoded string back to readable text online. %20 becomes a space, %C3%A4 becomes ä, and a + is read as a space, as in form data and query strings. Runs in your browser, nothing is uploaded.

How to URL decode text

  1. 1Paste the encoded text or link into the input box
  2. 2Read the decoded text in the result box
  3. 3Copy it, or fix the input if an error shows
  4. Plain readable text with every %XX code resolved.

What you get

  • Reads + as a space.Form-style strings such as a+b+c come out as a b c.
  • Nothing is uploaded. The text is decoded by your browser, on your own device.
  • Clear error on bad input.A broken % code gives a message instead of a wrong result.

What you can do

  • Turn %20, %26, %3D and every other percent code into the character it stands for.
  • Read non-English text: %C3%A4 becomes ä, %E2%82%AC becomes €, and emoji work too.
  • Make a long encoded link or query value readable, for example from a log or a tracking URL.
  • Copy the result with one click.

Good to know

  • A + becomes a space. A real plus sign must appear as %2B in the input to stay a plus.
  • A % that is not followed by two hex digits, or bytes that are not valid UTF-8, give an error.
  • Decode a value, not a nested chain. A double-encoded string such as %2520 needs a second pass.
  • Decoding a whole link keeps its structure, but the decoded text is no longer a safe URL.

Questions

How do I decode a URL?

Paste the encoded text or link into the input box. The readable text shows in the result box at once.

Why do I get an error?

The input has a % that is not followed by two hex digits, or the bytes are not valid UTF-8. Fix or remove the broken part.

Is + decoded as a space?

Yes. If you need a literal plus, it must be written as %2B.

Is my text uploaded?

No. The decoding runs in your browser and nothing is sent.
