Base64 encode
Encode text as Base64 online. Paste or type, and the Base64 string appears as you go, ready to copy. Umlauts, emoji and other Unicode are encoded as UTF-8 first. Nothing is uploaded: the encoding runs in your browser.
How to encode text as Base64
- 1Paste or type your text into the input box
- 2Read the Base64 string in the result box
- 3Click the copy button and use it
- A standard Base64 string with = padding.
What you get
- Nothing is uploaded. The text is encoded by your browser, on your own device.
- Updates as you type. There is no button to press. Edit the input and the result follows.
- Unicode is safe.Text is turned into UTF-8 bytes first, so ä, € and emoji survive a round trip.
What you can do
- Turn any text into standard Base64 (the A to Z, a to z, 0 to 9, + and / alphabet).
- Encode text in any script. It is converted to UTF-8 bytes before encoding, so it decodes back to the same characters.
- Copy the result with one click.
- Encode several lines at once. Line breaks are part of the text and are encoded too.
Good to know
- The output has = padding at the end when needed. For URLs and file names use Base64URL, which has no padding and no + or /.
- This tool encodes text. It does not open files or images.
- Base64 is not encryption. Anyone can decode it, so do not use it to hide secrets.
- Very large input can hit the limits of your browser and show an error instead of a result.
Questions
How do I encode text to Base64?
Paste your text into the input box. The Base64 string appears in the result box straight away. Copy it from there.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. The encoding is done by your browser. The text never leaves your device.
Why does my Base64 differ from another tool's?
Most likely the other tool used a different character encoding. This one encodes the UTF-8 bytes of your text, which is what most systems expect.
Is Base64 a way to protect data?
No. It only changes how data is written. Anyone can reverse it, so it gives no secrecy.
