Hex encode

Convert text to hexadecimal online. Every byte of your text becomes two hex digits, written together in lowercase with no spaces, so "Hi" turns into 4869. Umlauts and emoji are read as UTF-8 bytes. Runs in your browser, nothing is uploaded.

How to convert text to hex

  1. 1Paste or type your text into the input box
  2. 2Read the hex string in the result box
  3. 3Copy it for your code, test or config
  4. One unbroken lowercase hex string.

What you get

  • Two digits per byte. The output is a plain run of 00 to ff pairs, nothing else added.
  • Nothing is uploaded. The text is converted by your browser, on your own device.
  • Real UTF-8 bytes.ä becomes c3a4, so the output matches what a UTF-8 file contains.

What you can do

  • Turn any text into its hexadecimal bytes, lowercase, without spaces or prefixes.
  • Encode non-English text. Characters outside plain ASCII take two to four bytes each, as in a UTF-8 file.
  • Include line breaks and tabs, which show up as 0a and 09.
  • Copy the result with one click.

Good to know

  • The output has no spaces, no 0x and no separators. If you need bytes separated by spaces, use the Text to hex tool.
  • The bytes are UTF-8. Other encodings such as UTF-16 or Latin-1 give different bytes.
  • Hex is just another way to write the data. It is not encryption.

Questions

How do I convert text to hex?

Paste your text into the input box. The hex string shows in the result box straight away.

Why is the hex longer than my text?

Each byte takes two hex digits, so ASCII text becomes twice as long. Characters like ä or emoji use more than one byte.

Is the output upper or lower case?

Lowercase, for example 4869 for Hi and c3a4 for ä.

Is my text uploaded?

No. The conversion runs in your browser and nothing is sent.
