Text to Binary

Convert text to binary online: every character becomes its bytes written as groups of eight 0s and 1s. Type or paste your text and the binary code appears as you type. Free, no sign-up, and nothing leaves your browser.

How to convert text to binary

  1. 1Type or paste your text into the input box
  2. 2Read the binary code in the result box
  3. 3Click "Copy" to take it with you
  4. Your text as 8-bit binary, bytes separated by spaces.

What you get

  • Nothing is uploaded. The conversion runs in your browser, so your text stays on your device.
  • Updates as you type. There is no button to press: the result follows every keystroke.
  • Works offline.Once the tool has been opened, it needs no connection.

What you can do

  • Turn any text into binary. Each byte is shown as eight digits, padded with leading zeros, with a space between bytes.
  • Convert letters, digits, punctuation and symbols. Characters outside plain ASCII are written as their UTF-8 bytes, so "é" gives two groups of eight.
  • Copy the result with one click, for homework, a puzzle or a code snippet.
  • Convert the other way with Binary to Text.

Good to know

  • Output is UTF-8 bytes. A letter like "A" is one byte (01000001), an emoji is four.
  • Bytes are separated by single spaces. There are no prefixes such as 0b.
  • Empty input gives an empty result.

Questions

How do I convert text to binary?

Paste your text into the input box. The binary code shows up in the result box straight away. Click "Copy" to copy it.

Why is every group eight digits long?

Each group is one byte. Short numbers are padded with zeros, so "A" is 01000001 and not 1000001.

What happens to letters like ä or an emoji?

They are encoded as UTF-8, which uses two to four bytes for them. You get one eight digit group per byte.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. The conversion is done by your browser on your own device.
