Binary to text

Convert binary code to text, free and online. Paste groups of eight 0s and 1s such as 01001000 01101001 and read the words they stand for. Nothing is uploaded: your browser does the decoding.

How to convert binary to text

  1. 1Paste or type the text into the box
  2. 2Read the result below, it appears as you type
  3. 3Copy the result with the copy button
  4. The text the binary code spells out.

What you get

  • Eight bits per character.Every group of eight 0s and 1s is read as one byte and turned into text.
  • Result as you type.No button to press, the result changes with every keystroke.
  • Nothing is uploaded. The conversion runs in your browser, the text stays on your device.

What you can do

  • Decode binary written with spaces, line breaks or no separator at all.
  • Read accented letters, symbols and emoji, because the bytes are decoded as UTF-8.
  • Check the output of the matching text to binary tool by pasting it back.

Good to know

  • Digits are read in groups of eight. A group of seven or fewer digits at the end is ignored.
  • Everything that is not a 0 or 1 is skipped, so spaces and commas between the groups are fine.
  • A letter outside basic ASCII takes two or more bytes. Cut a group in the middle and the result shows a replacement sign.

Questions

How do I convert binary to text?

Paste the 0s and 1s into the box. Every eight digits become one character, for example 01001000 is H.

Do the groups need spaces?

No. Spaces help you read the code, but the tool also decodes a long run of digits by taking eight at a time.

Why do I see strange characters?

The bytes may not be text, or a group may be missing digits. Check that the length is a multiple of eight.
