Text to Caesar cipher

Encrypt text with the Caesar cipher online: every letter moves three places forward in the alphabet, so "hello" becomes "khoor". Type or paste your message and the coded text appears as you type. Free, no sign-up, nothing uploaded.

How to encode text with the Caesar cipher

  1. 1Type or paste your message into the input box
  2. 2Read the shifted text in the result box
  3. 3Click "Copy" and send it on
  4. Your text with every letter shifted by three.

What you get

  • Nothing is uploaded. The shifting runs in your browser, so your message stays on your device.
  • Updates as you type. The result follows every keystroke, with no button to press.
  • Works offline.Once the tool has been opened, it needs no connection.

What you can do

  • Shift every letter A to Z three places forward, wrapping around: X, Y and Z become A, B and C.
  • Keep upper and lower case as they are, so "Hello" becomes "Khoor".
  • Leave digits, spaces and punctuation untouched.
  • Decode a message with Caesar cipher to Text, which shifts back by three.

Good to know

  • The shift is fixed at three, the classic Caesar value. There is no setting for other shifts.
  • Only the letters A to Z are shifted. Accented letters such as ä or é stay as they are.
  • The Caesar cipher is easy to break and is a puzzle or teaching tool, not real encryption.

Questions

How does the Caesar cipher work?

Each letter is replaced by the letter three places later in the alphabet. A becomes D, B becomes E, and Z wraps around to C.

Can I choose a different shift?

No. This tool always shifts by three. For a shift of 13, use Text to ROT13.

How do I decode the result?

Paste it into Caesar cipher to Text. It shifts every letter back by three.

Is the Caesar cipher secure?

No. With only 25 possible shifts it can be broken in seconds. Use it for puzzles and learning.
