Convert to camelCase
Turn a phrase or a list of names into camelCase for variable and function names: "user first name" becomes userFirstName. Paste your text and the identifier appears as you type. Free, in your browser, no sign-up.
How to convert text to camelCase
- 1Paste or type your words, one name per line
- 2Read the camelCase names in the result box
- 3Copy them into your code
- One camelCase name per line you entered.
What you get
- One name per line. Each line of your input becomes its own camelCase name.
- Runs as you type. The names update with every key, no button needed.
- Nothing is uploaded.Your text is converted in your browser and never sent anywhere.
What you can do
- Lowercases the first word and capitalizes the first letter of every word after it: "get user name" becomes getUserName.
- Converts each line separately, so you can turn a whole list of labels into names in one go.
- Drops spaces, hyphens, underscores and other punctuation between words.
- Keeps letters from any alphabet and digits, so "größe 2" gives größe2.
Good to know
- Words are found by splitting on anything that is not a letter or digit. An existing name such as myVariable is not split at the capital, so it becomes myvariable.
- Accents are kept. If your language does not allow them in names, remove them first.
- A line that starts with a digit gives a name that starts with a digit, which most languages do not accept.
Questions
What is camelCase?
A way of writing several words as one name with no spaces. The first word is lowercase and each following word starts with a capital, like backgroundColor.
Where is camelCase used?
Mainly for variables and functions in JavaScript, Java and Swift, and for keys in JSON.
What is the difference between camelCase and PascalCase?
PascalCase also capitalizes the first word: UserName instead of userName. There is a separate tool for it.
Can I convert many names at once?
Yes. Put each name on its own line and every line is converted separately.
