Convert to snake_case

Convert text to snake_case: lowercase words joined by underscores, as in user_first_name. Paste your words and the result appears as you type. Free, runs in your browser, nothing is uploaded.

How to convert text to snake_case

  1. 1Paste or type your words, one phrase per line
  2. 2Read the snake_case result below
  3. 3Copy it with the copy button
  4. Lowercase words joined with underscores.

What you get

  • One result per line. Each input line is converted on its own, so a whole list works.
  • Runs as you type. The output updates with every key, no button needed.
  • Nothing is uploaded.Your text is converted in your browser and never sent anywhere.

What you can do

  • Lowercases everything and puts an underscore between words: "Order Total Price" becomes order_total_price.
  • Converts every line separately, handy for turning a column of labels into database column names.
  • Keeps digits and letters from any alphabet, so "Größe 2" gives größe_2.

Good to know

  • Words are found by splitting on anything that is not a letter or digit, so punctuation is dropped. A name that already has capitals, like myVariable, is not split at them.
  • Accents are kept, so check your database or language accepts them.

Questions

What is snake_case used for?

For variable and function names in Python and Ruby, and for column and table names in many databases.

How is it different from kebab-case?

snake_case joins words with underscores, kebab-case with hyphens. Hyphens are not allowed in most variable names, underscores are.

Does it keep capitals?

No. All letters become lowercase. For capitals with underscores use CONSTANT_CASE.

Is my text sent to a server?

No. The conversion runs in your browser on your device. Your text is not uploaded or stored.
