Comma separated to list

Split a comma-separated line into a list with one item per line. Commas and semicolons both count as separators, and the spaces around them are removed. Free, instant, and your text stays in your browser.

How to turn comma separated text into a list

  1. 1Paste your comma-separated text
  2. 2Each item appears on its own line in the result
  3. 3Copy the list
  4. One item per line, no commas left.

What you get

  • Commas and semicolons. Both are treated as separators, so a list copied from Excel in a German locale works too.
  • Spaces trimmed.Spaces around each separator are removed, so items start cleanly.
  • Stays on your device. The text is split in your browser and is never uploaded.

What you can do

  • Break a line like red, green, blue into three lines.
  • Split email address lists, tags, keywords or IDs that were pasted as one long line.
  • Handle comma and semicolon in the same text.
  • Copy the result with one click.

Good to know

  • Quotes are not understood. "Smith, John" is split into two items even though it sits in quotes. Use a data tool for real CSV with quoted fields.
  • An empty item, for instance after a trailing comma, becomes an empty line. Remove empty lines cleans those up.
  • Line breaks already in your text stay where they are.

Questions

How do I split a comma separated list into lines?

Paste the text. Every comma or semicolon turns into a line break and the spaces next to it are removed. Then copy the list.

Does it split on semicolons too?

Yes. Commas and semicolons are both treated as separators.

Why is there an empty line at the end?

Your text ended with a comma, so there was an empty item after it. Run the result through Remove empty lines to clear it.

Can I do the reverse?

Yes. List to comma separated joins the lines back into one comma-separated line.
