Convert to kebab-case

Convert text to kebab-case: lowercase words joined by hyphens, like my-blog-post. A quick way to get CSS class names, file names and URL parts. Runs in your browser, free, nothing uploaded.

How to convert text to kebab-case

  1. 1Paste or type your words, one phrase per line
  2. 2Read the kebab-case result below
  3. 3Copy it with the copy button
  4. Lowercase words joined with hyphens.

What you get

  • One result per line. Each input line is converted on its own, so a whole list works.
  • Runs as you type. The output updates with every key, no button needed.
  • Nothing is uploaded.Your text is converted in your browser and never sent anywhere.

What you can do

  • Lowercases the text and joins the words with hyphens: "Contact Us Page" becomes contact-us-page.
  • Converts each line on its own, so a list of page titles becomes a list of URL parts.
  • Keeps digits and letters of any alphabet: "Größe 2" gives größe-2.

Good to know

  • Words are found by splitting on anything that is not a letter or digit, so punctuation is dropped. A name that already has capitals, like myVariable, is not split at them.
  • Accents are kept. For a web address without accents, use the text to slug tool instead.

Questions

Where is kebab-case used?

In CSS class names, HTML attributes, file names, npm package names and URLs.

Is kebab-case the same as a URL slug?

Close, but a slug usually also removes accents and special characters. This tool keeps accented letters.

Why hyphens and not underscores?

Search engines treat hyphens as word separators in URLs, and hyphens are easier to read in file names.

Is my text sent to a server?

No. The conversion runs in your browser on your device. Your text is not uploaded or stored.
