Convert to Sentence case

Fix text typed in all capitals or all lowercase: only the first letter of each sentence gets a capital, everything else is lowercased. Paste your text and the result appears at once. Free, in your browser, no upload.

How to convert text to sentence case

  1. 1Paste or type your text into the input box
  2. 2The Sentence case result appears below
  3. 3Copy it with the copy button
  4. Your text with a capital at each sentence start.

What you get

  • Capitals where they belong. The start of the text and the start of each sentence get a capital.
  • Result as you type. There is no convert button: the output updates with every key.
  • Nothing is uploaded.Your text is converted in your browser and never sent anywhere.

What you can do

  • Turns "HELLO THERE. HOW ARE YOU?" into "Hello there. How are you?".
  • Starts a new sentence after a full stop, question mark or exclamation mark followed by a space.
  • Lowercases all other letters first, which tidies text typed with Caps Lock on.
  • Works with accented and non-Latin letters.

Good to know

  • Names, "I" and acronyms are lowercased too, so fix those by hand: "i met anna in paris" needs two more capitals.
  • Only the start of the whole text is capitalized, not each new line. A line break after a sentence without a full stop does not start a new sentence.
  • A sentence that begins with a quote or a digit is not changed at that point.

Questions

What is sentence case?

The way a normal sentence is written: a capital at the start, the rest in lowercase except proper names.

Will it capitalize names?

No. The tool cannot tell names from other words, so all of them are lowercased.

How is it different from Title Case?

Title Case capitalizes every word. Sentence case capitalizes only the first word of each sentence.

Is my text sent to a server?

No. The conversion runs in your browser on your device. Your text is not uploaded or stored.
