Keyboard tester
Keyboard test online: press every key and watch it light up on a drawn keyboard with F keys, arrows and number pad. See which keys respond, how many you can hold at once and what each key is called. Free, and nothing leaves your browser.
How to test your keyboard
- 1Click the test area, or move to it with Tab
- 2Press each key, one after another
- 3Hold several keys at once to see how many register
- 4Press Esc twice in a row to leave the area
- A drawn keyboard with every key you pressed marked
Why test here
- Runs in your browser.Every key press is read by the page on your own device
- Nothing is sent.No key you press goes to a server, and no result is stored
- Starts right away.Open the page and start pressing keys
What you can do
- See every key you press marked on a drawing of a full keyboard, with F1 to F12, the editing keys, the arrows and the number pad
- Read the key's name on your layout and its place on the keyboard for the last key you pressed
- Count how many of the drawn keys you have pressed so far
- Check how many keys are held at once now and the most at once, to find keys that block each other
- Test Tab, Space and the arrows too: while the test area has the focus they don't scroll or move on
- Clear everything with "Start over" and test again
Good to know
- Fn and shortcuts your system keeps for itself, such as Alt+Tab or Ctrl+Alt+Del, never reach a web page
- The drawing is a US/UK layout. On other layouts the key's own name is shown above it
- Keys that are not on the drawing are listed by name below it
- On a phone or tablet the keyboard on the screen doesn't open here. Connect a real keyboard first
- On a Mac, Cmd shows up as Meta
Questions
How do I test if all keys on my keyboard work?
Click the test area and press every key once. Each key that works gets marked on the drawing, so the ones still unmarked are the ones to look at.
Why does a key not light up?
Either the key doesn't send anything, or it is one a page never gets, such as Fn or a system shortcut. If a normal letter key stays dark, the key or its switch is likely faulty.
How many keys can my keyboard press at once?
Hold keys down together and watch "most at once". If a key you add doesn't count, your keyboard can't report that combination.
Does my keyboard layout matter?
No. The drawing is a US/UK layout, but every key is found by its place on the keyboard, and the name your layout gives it is shown too.
Is what I type recorded?
No. The key presses stay in the page on your device. Nothing is sent or stored.
