Good to know
- The interest rate field starts empty on purpose. Statutory rates differ by country and change over time: fill in the rate from your contract or from the law that applies to you
- Interest is amount times rate times days, divided by the days in a year. It is rounded to cents once, half a cent up
- It is simple interest with one rate for the whole period. Rules that add interest to the amount after each year, or rates that change during the period, are not worked out here
- The first and the last day of interest are both counted. Not legal advice
Questions
How is late payment interest calculated?
Multiply the amount owed by the yearly rate and by the number of days late, then divide by 365. 1,000 at 8 % for 30 days is 6.58.
Which interest rate should I use?
The rate in your contract or terms, or the statutory rate of your country for the period. The tool does not fill one in, so check the current rate at an official source.
Does the calculator use 365 or 360 days?
365 by default. You can change the day count to 360, or to the real length of each year, which is 366 in a leap year.
Are my numbers sent to a server?
