Stopwatch
Online stopwatch with laps, to the millisecond. Start and stop with the space bar, take a lap with L, and see each lap's own time next to the total. The time is read from your device's clock, so it stays right when you switch to another tab and come back.
How to use the stopwatch
- 1Press Start or the space bar
- 2Press Lap or L at the end of each lap
- 3Press Stop or the space bar, then copy the laps or save them as CSV
- The total time and every lap, with the fastest and slowest marked
What you get
- Milliseconds. The display shows minutes, seconds and thousandths, and hours once you pass 60 minutes
- Laps with splits. Each lap shows its own time and the total since the start
- Right after a tab switch. The time comes from the clock, not from counting ticks, so a tab in the background loses nothing
What you can do
- Start, stop and go on where you left off
- Take as many laps as you like, newest at the top
- See the fastest and slowest lap once you have three or more
- Copy the laps into a spreadsheet, or save them as a CSV file
- Use it with the keyboard: Space, L for a lap, R to reset
Good to know
- The display cuts the time off, the way a stopwatch does: 59.9996 seconds shows as 00:59.999
- A pause between stopping and going on is not part of any lap
- The laps are only kept while the page is open. Copy or save them to keep them
- The keys work while the stopwatch has the focus or nothing on the page does, not while you type in a field
Questions
Does the stopwatch keep running in the background?
Yes. It reads the time from your device's clock, so when you come back to the tab it shows the full time that passed.
What is the difference between lap time and total?
The lap time is how long that one lap took. The total is the time since you pressed Start, without the pauses.
How precise is it?
The display shows milliseconds. What you measure by hand also depends on how fast you press the key, which is usually a tenth of a second or two.
Can I start it with the keyboard?
Yes. The space bar starts and stops, L takes a lap and R resets.
Is anything sent or saved?
No. The stopwatch runs on your device and the laps stay in the page until you close it.
