What you can do
- Work out part of a monthly amount, such as rent or a salary for someone who starts on the 15th
- Work out part of a yearly amount, such as an insurance premium or a licence that runs for some months
- Give your own full period with two dates, when the amount is for a quarter or another period
- See per month or year how many days were counted and how many days it has
- Copy each result with one click, and switch between Euro, US dollar, Pound and Swiss franc
Good to know
- The first and the last day of the part are both counted
- Every month or year counts for its days in the part, divided by the days it has. The shares are added and the amount is rounded to cents once, half a cent up
- Some contracts count every month as 30 days. This tool counts real calendar days, so the result can differ by a little from such a rule
- It does the arithmetic on your own numbers. Not tax advice
Questions
How do you calculate a pro rata amount?
Divide the amount by the days in the period and multiply by the days you need. 1,200 a month for 15 to 31 October is 1,200 times 17, divided by 31: 658.06.
What does pro rata mean?
In proportion. You pay or receive the share of an amount that matches the share of the period you used.
Does the calculator use 30 days for every month?
No. It uses the real number of days in each month, and 366 days in a leap year.
Are my numbers sent to a server?
No. The numbers are processed on your device, not uploaded.
