Filament length & weight calculator
Convert filament grams to metres, or metres to grams, for PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, TPU, nylon and PC in 1.75, 2.85 or 3 mm. Free and online: see how much is left on a spool, or how long a print's filament is.
How to convert filament weight to length
- 1Choose weight to length, or length to weight
- 2Enter the amount and pick the material and diameter
- 3Read the result and the table for every material
- Metres or grams, plus a table for all materials.
What you get
- Both directions.Grams to metres for a spool, or metres to grams for what a slicer says a print needs.
- Seven materials side by side. The same amount shown as metres or grams for each material, so you can compare.
- Runs in your browser. It is a plain calculation on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.
What you can do
- Turn a weight in grams into a filament length in metres, or a length into a weight.
- Pick PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, TPU, Nylon (PA) or PC, each with its typical density shown in g/cm³.
- Choose "Other (type the density)" and enter the density from your spool's data sheet.
- Switch the filament diameter between 1.75 mm, 2.85 mm and 3.00 mm.
- Read a table that gives the same amount in every material at once.
Good to know
- The densities are typical values. Brands differ, and fillers such as carbon fibre or wood change them. For an exact result, type the density from the data sheet.
- The sum assumes a perfectly round filament of the exact diameter. Real filament varies by a few hundredths of a millimetre.
- A rule of thumb: 1 kg of 1.75 mm PLA is about 335 m.
- The weight is the filament alone, not the spool.
Questions
How many metres are in 1 kg of filament?
For 1.75 mm PLA about 335 m. The same kilogram of 2.85 mm PLA is about 126 m. Other materials differ because their density differs.
How do I convert grams of filament to metres?
Divide the weight by the density to get a volume, then divide by the cross-section of the filament. This tool does it for you.
Why does the length change with the material?
Denser filament weighs more per metre. ABS is lighter than PETG, so a kilogram of ABS is a longer strand.
Can I use a filament that is not on the list?
Yes. Choose "Other (type the density)" and enter its density in g/cm³.
