3D model thumbnail generator
Make a PNG thumbnail of a 3D model from the angle you choose. Drop in a GLB, OBJ, STL or another model, turn it until it looks right and save the picture, on a transparent or coloured background. Nothing is uploaded.
How to make a thumbnail of a 3D model
- 1Drop your 3D model in, or click to choose it
- 2Turn and zoom the model to the view you want
- 3Pick a size and background, then save the PNG
- A PNG of your model, in the size you picked.
What happens to your files
- Nothing is uploaded. The model is read and drawn by your browser, on your own device.
- Exactly the view you set.The picture shows what the stage shows when you press the button.
- Transparent if you want.Keep the background see-through for shop pages, slides and docs.
What you can do
- Choose a size from 256 × 256 to 2048 × 2048, 1280 × 720 or 1920 × 1080, or type your own width and height from 16 to 4096 pixels.
- Pick a transparent, white, light grey, dark or custom colour background.
- Set the view first with the stage tools: fit, grid, wireframe, background and the up axis for models that lie on their side.
- Save the picture again from the result if you need a second copy.
Good to know
- Pictures are PNG only. Models with no 3D support in your browser cannot be drawn: turn on hardware acceleration if you see that message.
- The largest size also depends on your graphics card. If it is too big, the tool tells you the limit.
- A model with its own files, such as an OBJ with a material file or a glTF with textures, needs those files dropped together.
Questions
Can I get a thumbnail with a transparent background?
Yes. Transparent is the default background. The preview shows it on a checkered pattern, and the saved PNG keeps the see-through areas.
Which 3D formats can I use?
GLB, glTF, OBJ, STL, PLY, FBX and the other formats the ToolRecipe viewer opens.
Is my model uploaded?
No. It is read and drawn in your browser, so the file stays on your device.
How large can the picture be?
Up to 4096 pixels on a side, or less if your graphics card cannot draw that much.
