STL volume & weight calculator
Find the volume, surface area, size, weight and material cost of an STL, 3MF, OBJ or PLY model, with walls and infill like your slicer. Free and online, and the model stays in your browser.
How to calculate the volume and weight of an STL
- 1Drop an STL, 3MF, OBJ or PLY file in
- 2Pick the material, walls, infill and filament price
- 3Read the volume, weight, length and cost
- Volume, printed weight, filament length and cost.
What happens to your model
- Your model is not uploaded. It is read and measured by your browser, on your own device.
- Weight as it prints.Solid walls plus partial infill, not the weight of a solid block.
- Every material at once.A table gives the weight in PLA, PETG, ABS and the rest, to save as CSV.
What you can do
- See volume in cm³, surface area in cm² and the size of the model in millimetres, with the triangle count.
- Get the weight as printed from the wall thickness (1.2 mm to start with) and infill (20 % to start with), next to the solid weight at 100 % infill.
- Choose PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, TPU, nylon, PC or resin, or type your own density.
- Add a filament price per kg in euro, US dollar, pound or Swiss franc to see the material cost, and get the filament length for 1.75 or 2.85 mm.
- Open "Weight in every material" and save that table as a CSV file.
Good to know
- The tool reads the numbers in the file as millimetres, centimetres or inches. Check "The file's numbers are in" if the size looks wrong.
- If the mesh is not closed, the volume is only an estimate. The tool says so and points you to STL repair.
- The weight is an estimate: it leaves out supports, brims and the slicer's own infill patterns. Use your slicer's number for the final price.
- If the file holds several separate parts, the count is shown.
Questions
How do I find the volume of an STL file?
Drop the file in. The volume appears in cm³ straight away, together with the surface area and the size in millimetres.
How much will my 3D print weigh?
Pick the material, wall thickness and infill. "Weight as printed" counts the walls in full and the inside at your infill percentage.
Why does the tool say the mesh isn't closed?
The model has holes or broken edges, so its volume can only be estimated. Run it through the STL repair tool first.
Is my model uploaded?
No. The measuring runs in your browser and the file stays on your own device.
