Split STL by parts
Split an STL into its separate parts and save each one as its own file, one by one or all together as a ZIP. Useful when a model holds several pieces in one file. Free, online, and the model stays in your browser.
How to split an STL into parts
- 1Drop an STL, 3MF, OBJ or PLY file in
- 2See the parts found, each in its own colour
- 3Save a part with "Save", or all parts as a ZIP
- One STL per part, or a ZIP with all of them.
What happens to your model
- Your model is not uploaded. It is read and split by your browser, on your own device.
- Every part is listed.Triangles, volume, size and whether the part is closed, for each file.
- Take one or take all.Save a single part, or all parts together in a ZIP named after your file.
What you can do
- Find every loose piece in a model, shown in the 3D preview with a colour per part.
- Save any part as its own STL, named like your file with "part01", "part02" and so on.
- Save all parts at once with "Save all parts (ZIP)".
- Check the size of each piece in millimetres, its volume in cm³ and its triangle count.
- Open 3MF, OBJ and PLY files as well as STL. The parts are saved as STL.
Good to know
- A part is a group of triangles that are joined to each other. Corners at exactly the same spot count as joined. Pieces that only come close stay separate parts.
- If the model is one connected piece, the tool says so and there is nothing to split, so the ZIP button stays off.
- A part that is not closed is marked "not closed". The STL repair tool can fix it.
- Each part keeps its position in the original model, so the files fit together again in your slicer.
Questions
How do I split an STL into separate parts?
Drop the file in. The tool finds the separate pieces and lists them. Save each part, or all of them as a ZIP.
Can I cut a single solid piece in two?
No. This tool only separates pieces that are not joined. A model that is one connected body shows as one part.
Why would I split a model?
To print parts in different colours or materials, to lay them out on the bed one by one, or to work on a single piece.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The model is split in your browser and the files are saved on your own device.
