Signature to transparent PNG

Turn a photo of your handwritten signature into a transparent PNG. The paper disappears and only the ink stays, so you can place the signature on a document or an image. Free, online, and the photo never leaves your browser.

How to make a signature a transparent PNG

What happens to your files

  • Your signature is not uploaded.It is processed by your browser, on your own device, and never sent anywhere.
  • Only the ink stays.The paper is cleared from the edges inward, and the strokes of your signature stay.
  • Cropped to the signature.Trimming cuts the empty border, so it fits neatly on a signature line.

What you can do

  • Remove the white or light paper from a photo or scan of a signature and keep the ink.
  • Set "Tolerance" (0 to 120, starts at 40) so paper shading and phone-camera noise go, but thin strokes stay.
  • "Only the area connected to my click" is on, so loops and enclosed spaces in your signature are not eaten. Untick it to clear all light pixels.
  • Tick "Trim empty edges" to cut the transparent margin, for a signature that is exactly as big as its ink.
  • The PNG keeps the ink color as photographed, so a blue pen stays blue.

Good to know

  • A signature in a light pen on dark paper will not work, because the tool clears white. Sign in dark ink on white or light paper.
  • Take the photo in even light, without a shadow across the paper, or a higher tolerance will start to thin the strokes.
  • It saves a PNG named like your file plus "-transparent". It does not place the signature in a document: use a PDF signing tool for that.
  • A signature image is personal data. Here it is not uploaded, but keep the PNG safe on your own device.

How do I make a transparent signature from a photo?

Photograph your signature on white paper, open it, raise "Tolerance" until the paper is gone and download the PNG.

Is my signature uploaded?

No. The picture is processed in your browser and is not sent to a server.

Why are some thin strokes missing?

The tolerance is too high, or the light was uneven. Lower it, or photograph the signature again in even light.

Can I use the PNG in Word or a PDF?

Yes. A PNG with a transparent background can be placed on top of text in most programs.
