Trim transparent edges
Crop the empty transparent margin off a PNG so the image ends exactly where the picture starts. Useful for logos, icons and stickers that come with a wide transparent border. Free, online, and the file stays in your browser.
How to trim transparent edges from a PNG
- 1Drop in your PNG or click to choose it
- 2Tick "Trim empty edges"
- 3Click "Download PNG"
- A PNG cropped tight to its visible pixels.
What happens to your files
- Nothing is uploaded. The image is cropped by your browser, on your own device.
- Cropped to what you can see.The edges go until the first row and column with a visible pixel.
- Pixels are not changed.Only the empty border is cut away. The picture itself is not scaled or recompressed.
What you can do
- Cut away every fully transparent row and column around the picture, on all four sides.
- Works on a PNG that already has transparency, such as a logo exported with extra space around it.
- The same page can also make a color transparent first: click a color in the image and trim in one go. "Tolerance" and "Colors removed" work as in the other transparency tools.
- The result is a PNG named like your file plus "-transparent".
Good to know
- You have to tick "Trim empty edges" yourself. It is off until you do, and the trimming happens when you download.
- Only pixels with zero opacity count as empty. A faint shadow or glow around the logo keeps its margin.
- A PNG without any transparent border comes out the same size. An image with nothing visible at all is saved as it is.
- It handles one image at a time.
Questions
How do I crop the transparent space around a PNG?
Open the PNG, tick "Trim empty edges" and download. The transparent border is cut off on all four sides.
Does it change the image quality?
No. The remaining pixels are copied as they are. Nothing is scaled.
Why was nothing trimmed?
Probably the border is not fully transparent, for example a very faint shadow. Only pixels with zero opacity count as empty.
Can it trim a JPG or a white border?
Not by itself. A JPG has no transparency. Click the white to make it transparent first, then trim.
