Add background to image
Add a background to a picture with see-through parts, like a cut-out product photo, a logo or a sticker. Pick a color, a gradient, a blurred copy of the picture or a photo of your own, and add space around it and a soft shadow if you want. Your browser does the work and nothing is uploaded.
How to add a background to an image
- 1Drop your pictures in, or click to choose
- 2Pick a color, a gradient, a blurred copy or your own picture
- 3Set the space around it and the shadow, if you want them
- 4Press "Save picture"
- Your picture on its new background, at full size
What happens to your files
- Stays on your device.Your browser opens the pictures and draws the new background. Nothing is uploaded
- Full resolution. The picture keeps its own size, plus the space you add around it
- JPG or PNG.JPG gives a smaller file. Pick PNG if you want every pixel kept exactly
What you can do
- Tap one of eight colors (white, off-white, light grey, black and four soft studio colors) or pick any color you like
- Use a gradient between two colors: top to bottom, left to right, diagonal or from the center out
- Put a blurred, enlarged copy of the picture behind it, with the picture itself sharp on top
- Put your own photo behind it, filling the frame or shown whole. Drag it into place and change its size, or use the arrow keys and + and −
- Add space around the picture, as a percentage of its long side or in pixels, and a soft shadow under it with a strength from 1 to 100
- Drop up to 30 pictures (10 on a phone). They all get the same background and you save them as one ZIP
Good to know
- The background shows through the see-through parts only. A JPG photo has none, so there you only see it in the space around the picture. Cut the subject out with Remove background (AI) first
- Saved as JPG at quality 92 unless you pick PNG. "-background" is added to the file name
- The new file is written from the pixels alone, so the original's EXIF data and GPS position stay behind
- Animated GIFs don't open here. Pictures up to 200 megapixels open on a computer, up to 64 on a phone; above 50 (16 on a phone) the picture is scaled down first, and the tool tells you
- Your own background picture can be a JPG, PNG or WebP of up to 50 MB
Questions
How do I add a white background to a PNG?
Drop the PNG in. White is already picked, so press "Save picture" and you get a JPG with a white background.
How do I change the background of a photo?
Cut the subject out with Remove background (AI) first. Then drop the result in here and pick the new background.
Can I use my own photo as the background?
Yes. Pick "Your own picture" and choose a photo. Drag it to move it, and use the size slider to make it bigger or smaller.
Why is the result a JPG?
A background fills every pixel, so nothing see-through is left and JPG keeps the file small. Pick PNG under "Save as" if you want it without any loss.
Are my pictures uploaded?
No. Your browser opens the pictures, draws the background and writes the new file on your device.
