GPX elevation profile
See the elevation profile of a GPX, FIT or TCX file as a chart, with the heart rate along the same route and the total climb, distance and times. Nothing is uploaded: the chart is drawn in your browser.
How to see the elevation profile of a GPX file
- 1Drop your GPX, FIT or TCX file in, or click to choose it
- 2Read the elevation chart, and the heart-rate chart if there is one
- 3Check the gain, distance and times beside it
- An elevation profile with climb, distance and times.
What you get
- Nothing is uploaded. The file is read and drawn by your browser, on your own device.
- Heart rate on the same route. If the file has heart rate, it gets its own chart under the elevation.
- Climb without the noise.Elevation changes under 2 metres are ignored, so GPS jitter doesn't add up.
What you can do
- Draw elevation along the distance. The chart zooms in on the height range so small hills stay visible.
- Add a heart-rate chart when the file has heart-rate data.
- Read the elevation gain, distance, moving time, elapsed time and start time.
- Open several files and see them as one profile, in time order.
- Switch modes to crop, split or simplify the route, then save it again as GPX, TCX or FIT.
Good to know
- A file without elevation has no elevation chart. If it has no heart rate either, the tool draws the distance along the route instead.
- Elevation gain counts climbs of 2 metres or more, so it can read a little lower than a watch that uses barometer data.
- Heights come from the file as recorded. The tool does not look up elevation from a map service.
Questions
How do I get an elevation profile from a GPX file?
Drop the file on this page. The elevation chart and the total gain appear straight away.
Why is my total climb different from my watch?
Devices smooth and count elevation in their own way. This tool ignores changes under 2 metres in the recorded heights.
Does a GPX file always have elevation?
No. Some routes have only latitude and longitude. Then there is no profile to draw.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The profile is drawn in your browser and nothing is sent anywhere.
