GPX time fixer

Fix the times in a GPX, FIT or TCX file. Shift every time by hours and minutes after a time zone mistake, set a new start time, or give a route without timestamps a pace so it gets times. Nothing is uploaded.

How to fix the times in a GPX file

  1. 1Drop your GPX, FIT or TCX file in, or click to choose it
  2. 2Shift by hours and minutes, or set a new start
  3. 3Save as GPX, TCX or FIT
  4. The same track with times that are right.

What happens to your files

  • Nothing is uploaded. The times are changed by your browser, on your own device.
  • Only times change.Positions, elevation, heart rate, cadence and power stay as recorded.
  • Real times are never touched.Filling only adds times where a point has none.

What you can do

  • Shift all times by a number of hours and minutes, forwards or backwards, for example after a watch was in the wrong time zone.
  • Set a new start date and time. Every point moves by the same amount, so the durations stay.
  • Fill missing times from a speed (km/h) or a pace (min/km). A route drawn by hand has no times, and this gives it some.
  • If the file has no times at all, choose the start for the filled times. A note says how many times were filled.
  • Save as TCX or FIT as well, which need a time on every point.

Good to know

  • A time shift moves the whole activity. It does not speed up or slow down the recording.
  • Where a gap of missing times lies between two known times, it is spread by distance between them. Before the first and after the last known time, your speed is used.
  • The start time is shown in your own time zone. GPX stores times in UTC, so you may see a shift of hours if you compare with a text editor.

Questions

How do I fix a GPX file with the wrong time zone?

Open the file, enter the hours to shift under "Shift by hours", and save. A watch that was set one hour too early needs +1.

Can I add times to a GPX route that has none?

Yes. Give a speed or a pace and a start time, and every point gets a time that matches the distance.

Why does my upload to Strava show the wrong start?

The file's start time is probably off by your time zone. Shift it here and upload again.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The times are fixed in your browser and the file never leaves your device.
