GPX split

Split a GPX, FIT or TCX activity in two, at a time or at a distance you choose. Use it to separate a ride from the walk to the cafe, or to cut a long day into two files. Both parts are saved separately. Nothing is uploaded.

How to split a GPX file

  1. 1Drop your GPX, FIT or TCX file in, or click to choose it
  2. 2Drag the split handle on the profile, or type where to split
  3. 3Save: you get part 1 and part 2 as two files
  4. Two files that together hold the whole activity.

What happens to your files

  • Nothing is uploaded.Your activity is split by your browser, on your own device.
  • No point is lost. The split point belongs to both parts, so part 2 starts where part 1 ends.
  • Both parts keep everything.Time, elevation, heart rate, cadence and power stay on every point.

What you can do

  • Split at a time (h:mm:ss from the start) or at a distance (kilometres from the start).
  • Drag a handle on the elevation or heart-rate chart, or type the exact value. It starts in the middle.
  • See on the map which points go to part 1 and which to part 2, and how many points each part has.
  • Read the stats of both parts side by side: distance, moving time, elevation gain and more.
  • Save both parts in one click as GPX, TCX or FIT. The file names end in "-part1" and "-part2".

Good to know

  • Time works only if the file has timestamps. Without them the tool splits by distance.
  • This tool splits in two. To cut into more parts, take part 2 and split it again with "Keep this and continue".
  • If no point lies exactly at your split, part 1 ends on the last point before it.

Questions

How do I split a GPX file into two?

Drop the file on this page, move the split handle to where you want the cut, and save. You get two files.

Can I split by distance instead of time?

Yes. Choose "Distance" under "Split by" and give the kilometre.

Will both parts have the right times?

Yes. The points keep their own times, so part 2 starts at the time where part 1 ended.

Is my activity uploaded?

No. It is split in your browser and never sent to a server.
